Homeschooling has increased a lot over the past couple of years. It is increasing a growth rate of 7 to 15 percent a year. (Shaw, par. 1) "Homeschooling is defined by Preiss (1989) as the educational alternative in which parents/guardians asssume the primary responsibility for the education of their children." (Homeschooling And Socializing of Children, par. 1) Families provide homeschooling with curriculum, teaching methods, and technology. Study shows that the parent responsible is almost never a trained proffesional. (Fredrick M. Hess and Joleen R. Okun 1) Also that one-fourth of families have one licensed parent and three-fourths of homeschooling families do it becuase of religious concerns. (Fredrick M. Hess and Joleen R. Okun 2) Homeschooling is beneficial for families because parents are more effective than teachers, there is emotional freedom, and studies show homeschooled kids outperform other kids.
